The Metropolitan Mosquito Control District has been studying the distribution of deer ticks in the metro area since 1990. MMCD has a network of 100 sites where small mammals are trapped and ticks are removed and examined. Collections from the northeastern metropolitan area (Anoka and Washington counties) have consistently detected deer ticks, and in 1998 deer ticks were detected in Hennepin and Scott counties for the first time.
