When it comes to mosquitoes everyone has an opinion. Separating opinion from fact is what science education is all about.
“Mosquito Mania” a new middle school science curriculum developed by the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District (MMCD) introduces middle school students and teachers to the world of insects using the same science that backs up modern mosquito control efforts.
Good schools seek ways to link the classroom to the outside world by inviting local business and government agencies into classrooms. In recent years, pressure has increased to develop formal ways to measure student performance. To meet the challenges of this new learning environment, MMCD put together a three-day program that meets Minnesota’s new “learning standards” in life sciences for middle school students.
